Lucien Hervé – originally named László Elkán - (1910 - )
Photographer. Born in Hódmezővásárhely. Travelled to Vienna after finishing secondary school and registered at the Economics University of Vienna. He took part in the trade union movement. He has been living in Paris since 1929. Jointly began work as a journalist with Miklós Müller. News reporter during World War II. Was captured by the Germans in 1940 and began taking pictures when in prison camp before escaping and participating in the French resistance movement. He remained in Paris after the war, his photos appearing in the Vu, Picture, Post, and Match magazines. Professional photographer since 1947. Photographer for Le Corbusier between 1949 and 1965 up until the architect’s death. He has received assignments from Alvar Aalto, Marcel Breuer, Kenzo Tange, Richard Neutra, Oscar Niemeyer, Jean Prouvé, Bernard Zerfuss and also Walter Gropius among others. His architecture-themed pictures brought him success. The master of abstract and collage, still active in his nineties.
